My grandfather absolutely loved growing tulips because they were his favorite plant. As you guys know, roses are THE number one flower in the world, and guess what? Tulips trail right behind them at the number three spot. Amazingly the Chrysanthemum, falls in at number two. Why do you think that the tulip flower symbolizes that spring is here? Maybe it's because they come in all sorts of colors, sizes, shapes, and even smells. The prettiest color is a purple tulip, and then comes the yellow, pink, and red. These fantastic plants came to be recognized when an Austrian biologist named “Carolus Clusius” introduced the flower. Tulips are also cousins to the lily family, liliaceae. In total, there is about one hundred species of tulip, and if you where to go to some spots of Asia, you will see tulips growing like wildfire. History shows that at one point, Europe labeled the tulip to symbolize the Ottoman Empire. Pretty interesting huh? What does this flower mean anyway if you give it to someone? Well, giving a bouquet of tulips will symbolize that you love someone, or that you are declaring your love to someone. All in all I can see why these pretty spring flowers are so darn popular.
