Description: I’m sure everyone is familiar with the misunderstood character created by Dr. Seuss, the Grinch. This cartoon character made his debut appearance back in 1957 when he appeared in the children’s book “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” Now, because the book became so popular so fast, in 1966 Metro Goldwyn Mayer’s animation studio MGM, produced the first television special that is still being broadcasted that was made over 40 years ago, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas Holiday Special”. After being bombarded by mail sent in by fans asking for more tales with the Grinch, in 1977 Seuss released the television special “Halloween Is Grinch Night a Halloween Special” it aired exclusively on CBS. The personality of the Grinch is somewhat amusing, I know he hates Christmas and all, but the way he goes about his conniving plan to steal it away from Whoville is actually funny. His poor little dog too, wearing that big oversized heavy stick on his head must have been a load for him to carry, but because he loved his owner he did it anyway. Grinch on the other hand cared for no one at all period. I really never understood why his heart was so small and black until I seen the motion picture that stared Jim Carrey who played the Grinch called “The Grinch”. I don’t know if it was true about how the Grinch hated all of Whoville because of what happened to him as a youngin, but that would make a lot of sense to me. He is definitely a mean one; you would have to be mean if you enjoyed living ontop of a snow covered hill so far away from Whoville. In the cartoon he seemed so sly and slick when breaking into those homes taking everything that was Christmas related, he even took a candy cane from a sleeping girl. WOW! Now that is definitely a Grinch. This character by Dr. Seuss is so easy to draw, so with this tutorial you will learn how to draw the Grinch step by step. The instructions are easy to understand, and read all you have to do is get out your favorite sketching pencil and a clean sheet of paper and you’ll be on your way to drawing the cartoon version of the Grinch.
Description: In this step what you will be doing is drawing out the outer and inner frame for the Grinch. Start by drawing a small shaped circle for the top of the head, then a larger circle that overlaps the smaller one. Then draw a medium sized circle for the Grinch's chest, and for the last circle shape draw the largest of them all for his oversized stomach. Then after the circles are drawn out sketch in the outer body frame starting at the top with his swirly type of hair style. Just think of ice cream and the way it twirls on a cone. Also sketch in a big plus sign in the middle of the face to help you sketch in his face alot easier. Sketch in the lower part of his face and neck, then continue on to sketch out his small shoulders and arms that are actually crossed behind his back. Now draw the sides of his torso and connect it to the stomach, after that draw two stick legs and feet.
Description: In this step you will be detailing a portion of the Grinch's face, collar and lower part of the body. Lets start off with the face, enlarge this step so you can see the details I'm talking about. Start by lightly sketching the forehead wrinkles that are thick and predominate, then lightly sketch in those devilish eyes and spurts of hair fuzz on the left side of his head. Fuzz up the tip of the flop he has hanging as well. Next draw in that sly big grin of his that literally goes from ear to ear. Now you can lightly sketch in the thickish thin hair that hangs over his shoulders but starts at the collar. Before moving to the next step, detail the bottom half of his body by sketching in some hair along the edges of his stomach and also draw in the thigh part of the leg.
Description: This is a very short and sweet step because all you will be doing is sketching in the bottom part of the legs and his long hairy feet. This is very easy to sketch so what you want to do is sketch in the legs and feet but when you do just think of a hockey stick and you will be able to draw that with no problem. Detail the right side of the Grinch's face and erase all the guidelines and circles that you drew in step 1. I would like to give a tip, when I tell you to lightly sketch, this is because whenever you are drawing something new you always want to lightly sketch out what you are trying to draw, because you will almost always have to erase what you are drawing until you get it right. After you get it right finally yo can then go over the sketch and press down a bit harder to make the image more bold.
