Description: I wanted to start the day with an awesome lesson on a character from Death Note that is very, very popular. I don't have a clue as to why he still is, because technically he is dead. He was shot and killed by Takada's bodyguards. Anyway, maybe if I told you who you were about to draw, you would understand what I am talking about. I will show you "how to draw Matt" from Death Note, step by step. Now Matt is not his real name, this is just a name that he used to go by. His real name is Mail Jeevas, and that is all the background information you will get on this manga character. I do know that he worked for Mello when he did some espionage work for him during the time when Takada was kidnapped. Takada to me, is what you would call a damsel in distress. The length of time it took me to draw Matt was absolutely insane. I figured if I was going to draw a wicked cool character like Matt, I might as well make him look incredibly awesome. I drew him standing in a side view pose, pointing his hand gun right at the viewer. The gun took me so long to draw because the perspective had to come out looking accurate and just right. He debuted in his first series of manga in chapter 83 of Death Note, and then stared in the anime series with episode 32. Even though he looks hard and does some pretty evil stuff, he was still just a nineteen year old boy that loves playing video games, but hates actually going and mingling with the rest of the world. The only accomplice I have ever known him to have is Mello, but I could be wrong about that too. Matt's character is very fuzzy to me because he wasn't in a lot of episodes or chapters in the manga and anime series. I have a funny feeling though that he may come back either as someone else, or as the same person living in a different body or something like that. Of course, I haven't been keeping up with Death Note, so I am a bit rusty on whats going on new. One of the things I love about Matt is his creepy looking eyes, and his sense of style. His eyes only look weird when he is wearing his goggles. Now, even though Matt didn't have a long life in Death Note, he is still one of the most popular characters to date. Some people feel that Matt helped Mello achieve the things he did because without Matt, so much wouldn't have been attainable. When Matt is not wearing his goggles, he is a pretty attractive anime/manga character. His image is flooding cool, and I know for a fact that this is going to be one of the more popular tutorials on Dragoart. Well, I guess that is all I have to say about this Death Note character, it is now time for you all to take this lesson and use it to teach yourself “how to draw Matt”. I will be back with more cool drawing fun so stay tuned in folks, you don't want to miss what's next. Peace out guys and happy drawing!
Description: This is going to be so fun. To draw Matt from Death Note, you will need to draw in his head shape which is a circle. Next, add the facial guidelines and then draw the shovel like shape for his torso. You will then draw an outlined shape of his gun that is pointed right in your face, and then add the limb guidelines for the arms, legs, and boots.
Description: In this second step, all you have to do is start sketching out Matt's hair style which is like most typical anime/manga male characters. Be sure to use a razor like sketching technique for the ends of his hair to give him that combed down look.
Description: Using the facial guidelines you will now draw out the shapes of Matt's goggles as you see here which look very much like his eyes. When that is done you can also start sketching out the shape of his jacket collar, as well as the detailing line work for the front of his coat design. Lastly, add some detailing and texture definition to his hair.
Description: Okay, let's finish off the drawing the squares on his jacket and then proceed on to drawing his hand gun and hand as you see here. Now you need to take your time when doing this because it can be difficult. This is the part that took me a very long time to get correct. Add the detailing lines on the guns design and then you can move to the next step.
Description: Now that you have almost all of Matt's upper body drawn out you can start sketching out the length of his jacket and then start sketching the shape of his legs and the design of his pants. Draw the hole for the muzzle of the gun and then you can move to the next step.
Description: For your last drawing step all you have to do is finish sketching out his legs and then his boots. Now his boots cover most of his lower leg, and I say this just to give you an idea on how high to draw the boots. You will also need to draw the detailing lines that make up the boots design as well like the buckle straps. Erase all the guidelines that you drew in step one and move to the next step.
Description: Now that you are done, you can see that learning "how to draw Matt" was a bit complex but not to an extent that you couldn't even try. I hope you had fun drawing this Death Note character. Come join me next time with more drawing fun in the future.
