Description: Flamingos are one of the prettiest birds that exist in the world today. Their famous pink feathers, long bold bills, and thin lanky legs are probably their recognizable trademarks that make them stand out from any other species of bird that’s out there. Greater flamingos thrive in warm watery regions on many continents of the world. Places like Africa, Asia, North and South America, and Europe. There are a total of six different species of flamingo with the Greater flamingo being the most plentiful of them all. They are currently not in any danger of extinction, and this is because they are so wide spread and habitats for these birds are not a hard thing to come by. This is a bird that prefers to be near lakes and mud holes that have a high saline balance. The Flamingos long bent bills allows them to feed on small live organisms like crustaceans, algae, small fish and other lake dwellings. Did you know that flamingos get their pink color due to the shrimp like crustaceans that are consumed by them? In fact when they live in captivity they are not pink at all they have a pale white look to them. They live and breed in colonies and range in sizes. Weighing in at almost 9 pounds and sizing up to be 60 inches tall this makes them one of the tallest bird species around. Bugsy Segal opened the first casino ever built and it was called “The Flamingo”. I personally think they are very beautiful birds even if they do stand on one leg most of the time. They keep one foot in the mud to dig up food; this makes it easier for them because they don’t have to keep moving around the water holes. Learning how to draw a greater flamingo step by step is an easy thing to accomplish. You will be surprised how simple it is to sketch out this pink sleek bird with these easy to read online instructions. Leave a comment and tell me what you think.
Description: Lets start this step by drawing the guidelines for the flamingo. This will make sketching out the bird alot easier. Draw a long snake like line for the neck and wing, then draw a large egg shape for the inner body of the flamingo. From that draw two simple lines, one going straight down, and one bent forward. Don't forget to draw a smaller round circle on top of the s curved line.
Description: Now what you can do here is draw the outlining of the flamingos actual body. A very simple process, just use the lines you drew in step one as a guide for the shape of the bird. Fill out the lining for the tail and start to draw in the feet with a tiny circle for the ankle. After you complete this step you can move down to the next and start that task.
Description: Now here you can start to detail the flamingos face and bill. Just draw a little dot for the eye, shape up the bill with more line sketching, and shape up the body make it look more real an plump. Fill out the legs by thickening them up but not to much remember flamingos have long sleek legs with webbed feet. After you are satisfied with the sketching on this step you can move on.
Description: And now what you will do here is feather up the body of the flamingo. The feathers of a flamingo really don't have the typical bird quality going on. The feathers on this animal look more like soft cotton balls. And that has alot to do with their color, having the vibrant bright pink color your eyes pick it up to be a smooth looking texture.
Description: Your final step is to erase all the guide lines and sketching lines. Clean up your sheet of paper from all the pencil marks made by sketching. After you are done you end up with a beautifully sketched greater flamingo. Color the bird in with pencils or water colors.
